Healthy Streets and Active Travel

Coalition for Healthy Streets and Active Travel

With others, LCON set up the Oxfordshire Coalition for Healthy Streets and Active Travel (CoHSAT), a group of voluntary and campaigning organisations working across Oxfordshire to create attractive, accessible and people-friendly streets.

CoHSAT aims to encourage efficient, active, low carbon and sustainable travel, which will reduce traffic, air pollution and noise, and enable healthy and thriving communities.

You can find out more about CoHSAT’s work here. Much of this is about engaging with proposals and initiatives developed by city and county councils and others. Recent projects have developed evidence and guidance on 15 Minute Neighbourhoods, Low Traffic Neighbourhoods and school streets.

Clean air

LCON has also signed up to the Oxfordshire Clean Air Charter. And in 2018 and 2019, LCON organised a number of public meetings to raise awareness of air pollution and action needed to tackle it across Oxford and Oxfordshire. These included presentations by environmental law firm ClientEarth and former London Cycling Commissioner Andrew Gilligan.

Cycling

For those with a particular interest in cycling, we are fortunate in Oxford to have an active local group, Cyclox, which promotes the interests of cyclists. Find out more on their website.
