Thank you to all the wonderful participants who took part in our 2026 Housewarming course, our fourth one so far. Once again we had a really energised and interesting group with interesting retrofit experiences of their own to share. We asked participants what they most valued about the course, here’s what they highlighted:
- Good coverage of retrofitting a home
- Professional booklets with clear diagrams
- Knowledge and experience of presenters
- The opportunity to ask questions, and to hear from other course attendees
- A structured but informal format
- Real-life examples and case studies
- Guidance on using thermal imaging cameras, and links to other sources of information
- The community atmosphere and communal nature of the meetings
- Tea and biscuits!
Many in the group went away with clear ideas of their next steps, though it is also the case that, as in previous years, barriers to retrofitting remain: these are personal finance, accessing reliable contractors, and the disruption to homes in the retrofit process. Although LCON cannot endorse particular companies or individuals, we maintain a WhatsApp group which is a valuable resource, both for continuing to learn, and for recommendations from others for contractors and suppliers (and warnings of who to avoid) from previous Housewarming participants.
We hope to run Housewarming again in 2027 – meanwhile look out for Energy Saving Homes in the autumn and access our Housewarming Guides online.
